About This Album
Fall River Mill was released in September 2022, inspired by the family farm where Andrew spent a great deal of time as a child and where he still visits today. The album's focal point is the historic G.T. Wilburn & Son Grist Mill, with some songs written specifically about the mill and its surrounding countryside, and others being collected arrangements of traditional Christian hymns that fit the character of the local area.
Andrew composed Fall River Mill as a deliberate contrast to his more energetic synth-pop work — here, the synthesizers breathe slowly, textures evolve gradually, and space becomes as important as sound. The production draws from the tradition of ambient pioneers like Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream, while filtering those influences through Andrew's distinctly personal harmonic sensibility and a deep appreciation for gospel music.
Each piece unfolds at its own unhurried pace, rewarding patient listeners with subtle shifts in mood and texture. The album closes with "Much Simpler Days," featuring lyrics by Larry Hillhouse, a nostalgic meditation on a slower way of life. For those who know Andrew primarily as a synth-pop songwriter, Fall River Mill reveals the contemplative composer who finds beauty in stillness, faith, and open space.
